MCM/ICM Contest Announcement

We understand that for a number of students and schools, the contest weekend for MCM/ICM was not a possibility due to Covid-19 and other scheduling issues. While it was impossible to change the February contest dates, we have decided to institute a Spring MCM/ICM contest for this year. This contest, which will be as challenging as the regular MCM/ICM, will run from March 30-April 3 this year only. Teams may compete in both contests. If you want to participate in the spring MCM/ICM, whether you took the regular MCM/ICM or not, you will need to purchase a separate team number for the later contest. Registrations for the Spring contest must be completed by March 30, 2023.

The spring MCM/ICM will be a choice of one of two problems – an MCM data related problem and an ICM related problem. This contest will be judged separately from the February contest but will be of the same level of difficulty. We sincerely hope that by holding this sister contest we can provide an opportunity for all who hope to compete. We repeat this spring contest is ONLY for this year.

March 30- April 3, 2023
Problem Y: MCM data related problem.
Problem Z: ICM related problem.

Spring 2023 Contest Dates and Times:
• Registration Opens: on Thursday, February 24, 2023.
• Registration Deadline: Before 3:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
• Contest Starts: 5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
• Contest Ends: 8:00 p.m. EST on Monday, April 3, 2023.
• Solution Report Deadline: 9:00 p.m. EST on Monday, April 3, 2023.
• Contest Results: Date to be determined.

Questions
If we competed in the February MCM/ICM can we compete in the spring MCM/ICM?
Yes, if you have already competed in the February MCM/ICM and want to participate in spring MCM/ICM as well, you will need to purchase a separate team number for the spring contest.

Can I use the same team number for both contests?
No, you will need to purchase a separate team number for the spring contest.

Do I need to register as an advisor for the spring MCM/ICM?
If you are already registered as an advisor for the February MCM/ICM then you can login to your account after February 24th and purchase your teams. If you have not registered as an advisor for the February MCM/ICM then you will need to register as a new advisor.

What is the registration deadline?
Registrations for spring contest must be completed by 3:00 p.m. EST March 30, 2023.

Will the results of the February MCM/ICM contest be delayed?
No, the February MCM/ICM results will be released on or before May 31, 2023.

When will the results of the spring contest be available?
The results of the Spring MCM/ICM WILL NOT be released with the February MCM/ICM results. The spring results schedule has not been set yet please check the website for updates.

Will the designations be the same for both contests?
Yes, the designations will be the same for both contests.

Will the spring MCM/ICM teams be competing for the International COMAP Scholarship Award?
Yes, the teams that compete in the spring MCM/ICM will be competing for The International COMAP Scholarship Award and will be awarded to the one(1) top MCM/ICM team from any of the participating teams; $9000 being split among the team members and $1000 to the school represented.

Will there be two contest each year moving forward?
No, this is a special contest for spring 2023 only. The 2024 MCM/ICM contest dates are set for February 1-5, 2024.
